Artists Live

Artists Live was a visual arts program that started in March and ran through December in 2017. Kathleen Zimmerman and the Mansfield Downtown Partnership were awarded a 2017 Regional Arts Grant from the State of Connecticut's Office of the Arts, which was also sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and Windham Arts. This program was created and ran by Kathleen Zimmerman, which consisted of nine, month-long exhibits along with one artist discussion per artist with Kathleen.  This page displays an image of each artist's work along with a short description and a recording of their conversation with Kathleen. The ten award-winning Connecticut artists exhibited and who participated in artists discussions are listed in chronological order: Gigi Horr Liverant, Anne Doris Eisner, Frank Bruckmann, Gar Waterman, Oi Fortin, Jean Dalton, Lynita Shimizu, Nan Runde, Kathleen Zimmerman and John Harris. Note: Kathleen took part in all of the artists discussions but since the gallery site was closed for Thanksgiving, the Final Friday of November, she did not do a live artists discussion about her work and herself at that time. She may add an audio at some point with her talking about her work and her life as an artist, which will either be a solo act or a casual discussion with another artist.

Note: Kathleen asks that you please forgive the nerves at the beginning of Gigi's artists discussion. It was the first discussion and not her normal way of communicating (verbal not visual) so she stubbled over a few words but like most visual artists, once she got past her intial shyness, some amazing things happened. As she always says, "There is a reason I am a visual artist, haha." k

May Artists Discussion

Frank Bruckmann was the third artist of a series of ten artists to be offered a solo exhibition in the Artists Live 2017 program but as in his nature shared the space with Gar Waterman. Frank's painting demonstrates his love for his subject matter through his palette of rich colors and carefully arranged compositions. His work was on exhibit May 5th through the 26th. His artist discussion was on May 26th at 5 pm together with Gar.

Gar Waterman will be the fourth artist of a series of ten artists to be offered a solo exhibition in the Artists Live 2017 program but as in his nature shared the space with Frank Bruckmann. Gar’s sculpture creates a fundamental dialogue between the manmade and the organic.  His work was on exhibit May 5th through the 26th. His artist discussion was on May 26th at 5 pm together with Frank.  Note: Recordings are an hour long and take a minute to boot up.

June Artists Discussion

Oi Fortin was the fifth artist of a series of ten artists to have solo exhibits in the Artists Live 2017 program. Her contemporary abstract expressionist prints are notable for a vivid palette and spritely motifs along with their ability to invoke a calm and meditative state summoning the mystical. Her work was on exhibit June 1st through the 30th. Her artist discussion was on June 30th at 5 pm. Note: Recordings are an hour long and take a minute to boot up.

July Artists Discussion

Jean Dalton was the sixth artist of a series of ten artists to have solo exhibits in the Artists Live 2017 program. Her paintings are visual orchestrations, complete with nuances, harmonies, dis-harmonies and maybe a wild note or two. Her work was on exhibit July 7th through the 28th. Her artist discussion was on July 28th at 5 pm. Note: Recordings are an hour long and take a minute to boot up.

September Artists Discussion

Lynita Shimizu was the seventh artist of a series of ten artists to have solo exhibits in the Artists Live 2017 program. Her woodcut prints deal with the division of space and abstract qualities of her subject matter bringing order to chaos. Her work was on exhibit September 1st through the 29th, Her artist discussion was on September 29th at 5 pm. Note: Recordings are an hour long and take a minute to boot up.

October Artists Discussion

Nan Runde was the eighth artist of a series of ten artists to have solo exhibits in the Artists Live 2017 program. Her meticulous graphite and colored-pencil drawings are visual musings on the strangers that move in the periphery of our vision. Her work was on exhibit October 6th through the 27th. Her artist discussion was on October 27th at 5 pm. Note: Recordings are an hour long and take a minute to boot up.

Artists Discussions

Kathleen Zimmerman was the ninth artist of a series of ten artists to have solo exhibits in the Artists Live 2017 program. Her love affair with form is evident in all of my work as she explores ideas concerning both day-to-day life as well as more profound ideas surrounding relationships, stages of life and culture in drawings, prints and sculpture. Her work was on exhibit November 3rd through November 30th. She participated in all the artists discussions so did not post one for this month due to the fact that the site was closed the final Friday of November for Thanksgiving. More information about her work and herself can be found elsewhere on this website.

December Artists Discussion

John Harris was the last artist of a series of ten artists to have solo exhibits in the Artists Live 2017 program. His  paintings are organic abstractions. He uses layers of paint and color to depict the hypnotic and fleeting. He was on exhibit December 1st through the 29th. His artist discussion will be held on December 29th at 5 pm. Note: Recordings are an hour long and take a minute to boot up.
